Exit Rate
Definition
The percentage of people who left your site from a particular page.
Deep Dive
Exit rate is a web analytics metric that represents the percentage of visitors who left a website from a specific page, having viewed that page as their *last* page in a session. Unlike bounce rate, which measures single-page sessions where a user leaves without interacting further, exit rate can occur after a user has viewed multiple pages on a site. It's a critical indicator for identifying pages where users often conclude their visit, regardless of how long they've been on the site or how many pages they've seen prior.
Examples & Use Cases
- 1Many users consistently leave an e-commerce site from a specific product description page, suggesting the product information is insufficient or the pricing is uncompetitive.
- 2A high exit rate on the final payment confirmation page during an online purchase, potentially indicating issues with payment processing or security concerns.
