Limit Order
Definition
An order to buy or sell a cryptocurrency at a specific price or better.
Deep Dive
A Limit Order is a type of trade instruction to buy or sell a cryptocurrency at a specific price or better, rather than immediately at the current market price. When placing a limit order, a trader specifies the maximum price they are willing to pay for a buy order, or the minimum price they are willing to accept for a sell order. The order is then placed on the exchange's order book and will only be executed if the market price reaches or surpasses the specified limit price.
Examples & Use Cases
- 1Placing a buy order for BTC at $25,000 when the current price is $26,000
- 2Setting a sell order for ETH at $2,000 when it's currently $1,900
