IDO
Definition
Initial DEX Offering. A token sale conducted on a decentralized exchange.
Deep Dive
Initial DEX Offering (IDO) is a method for launching a new cryptocurrency token on a decentralized exchange (DEX). Unlike IEOs which are conducted by centralized exchanges, IDOs leverage decentralized platforms, often utilizing liquidity pools and automated market makers (AMMs) for token distribution. This allows projects to launch tokens in a permissionless, censorship-resistant manner, directly engaging with the community without a central intermediary.
Examples & Use Cases
- 1Many innovative DeFi protocols choose to conduct IDOs on platforms like Uniswap or PancakeSwap to maintain their decentralized ethos from inception.
- 2To participate in the recent IDO, users had to provide liquidity to a specific pool on a decentralized exchange to acquire the new governance token.
